Melbreak Communities Net Zero Project
Melbreak Net Zero Project has been working alongside some other local community groups on ‘Retrofit Made Easy’, an initiative run by Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS). This aims to support households to save energy and create a warm and healthy home through retrofitting insulation and draught-proofing also upgrading ventilation and heating systems. We’ve been involved with two Retrofit Made Easy events, one in Lorton the other in Greysouthen. The sessions outlined the advice and support available from CAfS, had short presentations on retrofit projects that have recently been undertaken in the area and offered free thermal imaging surveys.

Members of the Melbreak Communities Zero Carbon Group received training from CAfS and carried out 20 thermal imaging surveys over the winter for local householders. The thermal camera surveys help people see where their home may be losing heat, e.g. via draughts or gaps in insulation. we provide images to the householder which show where the camera indicates heat loss may be greatest.
If you’re interested in getting involved, please let us know, we’re a small group and new members and new ideas are always welcome.
