Between the Lines – Eco Book Group
We now have about 12 people in our book club, and we meet approximately every 2 months in a members homes. The books so far have been sourced from Cumbria Libraries who hold sets of books on carbon reduction and climate change funded through Cumbria Action for Sustainability.
Books we have read include: All We Can Save; Truth, Courage and Solutions for the Climate Crisis – essays by different authors which provoked interesting discussions and Silent Earth – how to avert the insect apocalypse by David Goulson. How to Live Plastic Free – Marine Conservation Society was a light touch book on the topic of plastic, but prompted us to organise a litter pick in Lorton where we collected 15 bags of rubbish over 1.5 hrs. Some of the group also took part in the Big Plastic Count in their own homes and sent in results – which contribute to national statistics that are used to put pressure on government and businesses to reduce the amount of single use plastic.
Other opportunities: Free magazine subscription online to Ethical Consumer for book group members; sharing films, podcasts and other books of interest.
